ABOUT
Global Entrepreneurship Week Fort Worth
In 2018 a group of like minded startup ecosystem builders in Fort Worth hatched a plan to capitalize on momentum gained from a few small events organized over the previous year. They chose to use the Global Entrepreneurship Week platform as the catalyst for the Fort Worth startup community for the coming years.
In Fort Worth each November around 45+ individual session organizers create 75+ individual sessions all orientated towards entrepreneurs, those interested in entrepreneurship and those that support entrepreneurs. GEW FW has no leader and is organized by a diverse set of lead organizers from different parts of the startup community. Anyone can organize a session for the week on any topic dealing with any aspect of entrepreneurship.
Our goal is to inspire, connect and engage with our local community of innovators, creatives, entrepreneurs, investors, educators and students to help expose them to all aspects of entrepreneurship during this week, and to catalyze greater cooperation and connectivity beyond the normal silos and patterns of engagement.
What is Global Entrepreneurship Week
GEW Fort Worth is part of a concerted effort by GEN Global to have events focused on entrepreneurship one week a year around the globe. Each November, Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) reaches millions of people of all ages and backgrounds through local, national and global events and activities. During the week each November, speakers, panels, competitions, showcases and networking make up the thousands of events held around the world. The goal is to inspire millions to engage in entrepreneurial activity while connecting them to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors. Around the globe, 180 countries participate in GEW every year, which results in about 35,000 events that include over 10 million people. In the United States alone, nearly 5,000 events, activities and competitions are planned across all 50 states by a wide variety of organizations.

Why does Fort Worth need Global Entrepreneurship Week?
Fort Worth is the 12th largest city in the United States, the 4th largest in Texas. It is a great place to live and raise a family. Most local business owners would say it’s a great place to start a business.
Yet, there are several challenges Fort Worth is facing if it hopes to match population growth with opportunity growth for its citizens. Fort Worth is woefully lagging behind other US and Texas large cities when it comes to entrepreneurial activity and investment.
This is important because startups, firms less than 1 year old, create the bulk of new jobs in America each year. In contrast, firms older than 10 years eliminate more jobs than they create each year.
In short, startups drive economic growth and create new opportunity in the economy, while established firms act as the foundation of the economy, keeping the baseline of the economy going. Startups serve as the future for our local economy and the more robust the startup community the more job opportunities are created for local citizens.
